FAQ
How does a beer cooler work?
Your beer cooler is at the heart of your operation, keeping your drinks at the optimum temperature without compromising space in a busy bar or pub. Understanding your bar equipment is a must when you’re in the market for a new beer cooler. So, how do they work?
The ideal serving temperature for most beers is around 3℃. At this temperature, lagers and ales retain their unique characteristics and crisp taste. To produce the optimum serving temperature, a beer cooler circulates cooling liquid around the beer lines, creating the perfect tap temperature and pour.
- Cooling system: Water and glycol are cooled in a refrigeration unit using air or water. The cooled liquid is then circulated through your insulated beer lines.
- Beer lines: Beer lines run between the keg and the tap, passing through the chilled liquid to maintain the optimum temperature.
- Customer satisfaction: All that’s left is to pour the perfect pint into your customer’s glass for satisfaction from the first drop to the last.
Our Speciality
Eco-friendly beer coolers
at the heart of your bar
Creating a consistent temperature is essential, or you could compromise an entire keg. This preventable issue can be solved with a quality beer cooling system using John Guest fittings for the perfect pour.
But does a beer cooler use a lot of electricity? Well, traditional beer coolers run 24 hours a day and typically cost £1.60 a day to run. Modern coolers can be easily programmed for exceptional performance with energy savings. Our range of beer coolers is designed to help your business meet sustainability targets and reduce running costs without compromising your beverages.
After all, sustainability is at the core of what we do here at Drinksflow, and our beer coolers feature eco-friendly designs that use hydrocarbon gas for energy efficiency.
So whether you choose an air-cooled or water-cooled model, you can rest assured that your beer cooler works as efficiently as possible without harming the environment. With manual and digital thermostats, multiple coil configurations, and optional lid packs, our systems allow you to tailor your beer cooling setup to the exact requirements of your venue.
Why Drinksflow?
Space-saving and high-capacity remote beer coolers
Does your venue have limited bar or cellar space? Remote beer coolers could be the ideal option. These don’t have to sit near the taps, taking up valuable space in a busy environment — instead, you can place them away from the service area.
Why choose a remote beer cooler?
With a remote beer cooler, you can free up room behind your bar to make working easier. These coolers can also support multiple beer lines, so you can offer diverse beer options — a must for any busy venue.
Compact beer shelf coolers
Another great choice for smaller spaces is a compact beer shelf cooler. These streamlined models fit seamlessly into a bar — they can even fit under the counter for easy beer cooler access without using extra floor space. The best part is that they don’t sacrifice the all-important cooling power.
A beer shelf cooler is ideal for low to moderate beer line setups.
Why should I buy a beer shelf cooler?
With a handy, compact design, these beer coolers allow you to enjoy the best of both worlds — space behind your bar and the chance to serve the very best beer.
What’s more, we have models available with different thermostats and configurations to match your bar’s needs.

How to find the right beer cooling system for your needs
When it comes to serving a perfectly cooled pint, the right beer cooler is essential. These tips will help you find the right system for your needs:
- Assess your cooling requirements: Consider the scale of your operation, the number of beer lines you have, and the available space.
- Find the best cooling method: Air-cooled systems are great for small setups, while water-cooled systems provide better temperature control for multiple beer lines.
- Evaluate energy efficiency: Energy efficiency is cost-effective and sustainable. For long-term cost savings, consider models with high-performance insulation.
- Precise temperature control: Temperature control is critical for the perfect draught beer pour. Look for adjustable settings, alarms and digital displays for precise control.

Beer Coolers FAQs
How long can beer stay cool in a keg?
Heat has a detrimental effect on beer, which is why we recommend it’s stored cool in a keg. The beer in a keg will remain fresh if dispensing with CO2 while maintaining the proper temperature and pressure. For non-pasteurised draft beer, you can store it for 45-60 days. For pasteurised draft beer, we’d recommend storing for between 90-120 days.
If you are dispensing keg beer using a party pump, any draft beer with only remain fresh for between 8-12 hours.
For Cask Beer: Its shelf life can vary, depending on the product. Generally, it will last around 8 weeks from filling. Please check the best before date and rotate your stock accordingly.
What temperature should a beer cooler be set to?
Every beer is different; however, as a general guide, 3°C to 6°C (37°F to 43°F) is the best temperature for storing beer. Lagers would be in the lower range, while ales would be at the higher end.
Should I turn my beer cooler off at night?
We don’t recommend turning your beer cooler off at night. Your unit is designed to run 24 hours a day and can use more energy to reach the desired operational temperature after being turned off. When you choose one of our beer coolers, you can feel confident knowing it’s working as efficiently as possible to keep running costs low and reduce your business’s carbon footprint.
